This is a fine Victorian Fireside Fender.
Often termed a 'Nursery Fender' because they are a little higher than conventional fenders and wrap around the open fire place to afford more protection for children.

Brass top rail
Steel wire mesh and iron base plate.
Matt black finish.

Excellent condition.
The iron base plate has one retaining bracket for resting fire irons against. It would originally have had 2.
