Edwardian Silver Cheroot Holder Case, Chester 1903

This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Cheroot Holder Case. The case is a tapered cylinder with a hinged lid and a ring at the base for attaching to a watch chain or chatelaine. The body of the case has entwining foliate engraving surrounding a blank central cartouche at the front. The interior is gilded.
The cheroot holder case was made by Rolason Brothers and assayed in Chester in 1903. The Rolason Brothers established their company in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in the mid-1880s. They made a wide range of small silver items for personal and table use and also registered a mark in Chester. They remained in business up until the late 1920s.
Condition is good with just a slight crease at the top of the cartouche plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 120 years of good service. The hinge is in good working order and the lid snaps shut securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The case is 4.5cm / 1.8ins long and 1.4cm / 0.55ins in diameter. It weighs in at 6.0g / 0.21oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside rim of the case, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter C for 1903 and the R.Bs makers' mark for Rolason Brothers.
