Victorian Silver Sauce Ladle, London, 1850
This is a very good quality Victorian Sterling Silver Sauce Ladle in the ever popular Fiddle pattern. The Sauce Ladle is made in London in a heavy gauge of silver by silversmiths Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater and dates to 1850. There is no engraving or personalisation of any kind. The hallmarks at the top of the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read with the exception of the makers' mark, which is a little rubbed but still easy to decipher.
The Sauce Ladle is in excellent condition with no dings or dents and only a minimal amount of wear & tear such as you would expect of an item of this age (170 years old!) and use. It is completely functional and suitable for use today or would make a great addition to any collection. Please make sure you look at all the photos.
The ladle is 18.2cm long and weighs a very substantial 71.5g of solid sterling silver.
The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the gothic date letter "P" for 1850, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the SH over DC makers' mark for Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
