This is a smart Mid-Century Sterling Silver Egg Cup. The cup has a domed circular base, a short knopped stem and a plain goblet cup with a rolled top rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The egg cup was made in Birmingham by Fred H. Adams & Holman and dates to 1954. Founded by Fred Adams, the firm registered their first mark as F.H. Adams Ltd in Birmingham in 1909. In 1919 the company was renamed Fred H Adams & Co and finally in 1937 as Fred H Adams & Holman. They produced a huge range of silverware from tableware to candlesticks to smoking accessories and dressing table sets and remained in business until around 1960.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with occasional use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The egg cup stands 6.7cm / 2.6ins high and is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter across the top rim. It weighs in at a respectable 21.7g / 0.76oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside just below the rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter E for 1954 and the F.H.A & H makers' mark for Fred H. Adams & Holman.
