Early 20th C. Silver Blotter & Dip Pen Set, USA


Here we have an exquisite Early 20th Century Sterling Silver Ink Blotter and Dip Pen Set. The top of the blotter is elaborately decorated with embossed flowers and foliage in the Aesthetic style with the pen decorated to match. The side of the blotter has a letter M engraved on it and the top of the pen has the initials M C P engraved on it.
The set was made in Baltimore, Maryland by silversmiths Jenkins & Jenkins and dates to the period c.1908-15. The firm was founded in Baltimore, USA in 1879 as A. Jacobi. This became Jacobi & Jenkins in 1894 and finally Jenkins & Jenkins in 1908. They made a wide range of tableware, dressing table items and desk and study items. The company was bought out in 1915.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The ink blotter measures 13.2cm / 5.2ins by 5.8cm / 2.3ins and stands 4.8cm / 1.9ins high. It weighs in at 76.0g / 2.7oz. The dip pen is 21.6cm / 8.5ins long and weighs in at 19.2g / 0.68oz.
The side of the blotter is stamped JENKINS & JENKINS INC, MAKERS, BALTIMORE and STERLING 925/1000 FINE. The dip pen is stamped STERLING 925/1000 FINE on the underside of the nib holder.
