Art Deco Silver Napkin Ring, Sanders & Mackenzie
Here we have a very heavy and high quality Art Deco Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The circular ring has engine turned decoration all the way round the exterior with an odeon style cartouche bearing the initials J.O.H.
The napkin ring is made by Sanders & Mackenzie in Birmingham and dates to 1936. Founded by partners Ernest Sanders & Henry Mackenzie around 1910, the firm produced high quality, mostly small, pieces of silverware from their Spencer Street premises in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter up until the late 1970s.
Helped by being such a heavy gauge of silver, the condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the absolute minimum of superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 85 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter, 2.7cm / 1.06ins deep and weighs a very substantial 60.7g / 2.14oz of solid Sterling Silver. This is the heaviest napkin ring we've ever handled!
The hallmarks on the inside of the ring are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter M for 1936 and the S & M in conjoined circles makers' mark for Sanders & Mackenzie.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
