Victorian Silver Mustard Pot, Pinder Bros, 1898

This is a stylish late Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original Blue Glass Liner. The pot is drum shaped with a pierced body standing on three ball feet. The hinged lid is domed with a flame finial and there is a scroll shaped handle.
The mustard pot was made in Sheffield by Pinder Brothers and dates to 1898. John T. Pinder and Charles E. Pinder established Pinder Brothers as electroplaters in Sheffield in 1877 and registered their first silver makers’ mark in 1888. They made a wide range of silverware in both Sheffield and Birmingham including church silver, tableware, flatware, desk items, photo frames and drinking vessels. The firm remains in the ownership of the Pinder family to this day.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no chips or cracks in the glass liner and just the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 6.1cm / 2.4ins from rim to handle, 4.2cm / 1.6ins across the body and stands 5.8cm / 2.3ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at 32.1g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 69.0g / 2.4oz.
The hallmarks, just below the top rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter f for 1898 and the C E P makers' mark for Charles E. Pinder of Pinder Brothers. There is a second partial set on the outside rim of the lid.
