Pair of Antique Chinese Silver Menu-Holders
A lovely and useful antique that would enhance any table. Hopefully to bring the intended happiness and good fortune. A pair of Chinese, pierced fine-silver (900), Chinese character menu-holders on easel-backs by Luen Hing, ca 1900 - , maker Luen Hing – 6.5cm diameter - 42g. These lovely silver menu holders bear the central Chinese character 福 fu, meaning Good Fortune, Happiness, Blessings. To the outside of the central motif floral roundels are interspersed with small facsimile coins of the Emperor Guangxu. To the back - the splayed easel supports are stamped with the numeral "90" indicating silver of 900 parts per thousand, together with Chinese character and Roman alphabet marks for the maker Luen Hing - who was active in Shanghai ca. 1880-1920. These probably date from the early 20th Century.
Excellent condition - displaying only minor surface scratching consistent with age and use.
