A buttero is a mounted herder, usually of horses, or cattle, in Italy, predominantly in the Maremma region of Tuscany and northern Lazio, or in the Pontine Marshes to the south.

This striking Bronze is signed by the artist Ferdinando Vichi, born in Florence in 1875. He was well-known and much appreciated sculptor who produced numerous works of art until his death in 1941.

The piece measures 44cms Height and 27cms
