2 x George V Ruby Glass Match Strikers, B'ham 1921

This is a lovely Pair of George V Ruby Glass Match Strikers with Sterling Silver Rims. The hand blown strikers are circular with flat bottoms and ribbed sides for striking vesta matches on. The silver top rims are plain.
The match strikers were made in Birmingham by G.F. Westwood & Sons and date to 1921. Charles Westwood established his firm in Hall Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in the 1890s in partnership with his sons. They primarily produced silver for the table and had marks registered in both Birmingham and Chester. In 1912 the company was renamed G.F. Westwood & Sons and remained in business until the late 1930s.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 100 years of use. Being hand blown, there are some bubbles and flaws in the glass but these are part of the manufacturing process not damage. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each match striker is 5.3cm / 2.1ins in diameter and stands 4cm / 1.6ins high. The pair together weigh in at 127.5g / 4.5oz.
The hallmarks, on the outsides of the rims, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the G.F.W & S makers' mark for G.F. Westwood & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
