Victorian Silver Egg Spoon, Jacob Wintle, 1847

This is a good quality Victorian Sterling Silver Egg Spoon in the classic Fiddle pattern. The spoon has the initials JFG elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The egg spoon is made in London by Jacob Wintle and dates to 1847. Jacob Wintle was a specialist spoon maker in the 1840s who only seems to have been in business for a few years and his mark is rarely seen.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 170 years of good service. The bowl was originally gilded but this is now wearing rather thin. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 13.5cm / 5.3ins long and weighs a very respectable 19.8g / 0.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the Gothic date letter M for 1847, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the JW makers' mark for Jacob Wintle.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
