For sale this pretty Art Nouveau style Norwegian egg cup hold marked 830s (meaning 830 silver) with a stylish repousse pattern of lines that spread outwards as the egg cup widens. The top of the cup and the base have a tiny intricate pattern. The egg cup is engraved with the name 'Ellen'.

This has the makers mark for Jacob Tostrup, one of Norway's most renowned silversmiths. Jacob Tostrup received the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav as well as the King's Order of Merit both awards for his outstanding work as a goldsmith and silversmith.

The business was passed through the generations and was passed to Jacob's son, Oluf Tostrop and this piece was most likely made by Torolf Pritz who became partner and managed the business after Jacob's death in 1882. Pritz participated in the Exhibition Universelle in Paris in 1900 where he received a gold medal. The family became one of the most prominent and pioneering Art Deco designers.
