Silver Commonwealth Games Spoon, G.L. Stewart

Here we have a very distinctive Scottish Sterling Silver Commemorative Spoon produced for the XIIIth Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. The spoon has a narrow oval bowl, a cylindrical stem and the XIII logo incorporating the Scottish Saltire for the 1986 games as a finial.
The spoon was made by celebrated Scottish silversmith Graham Leishman Stewart and assayed in Edinburgh in 1986. Graham Leishman Stewart was a renowned modern Scottish silversmith who was active from the mid-1980s until his death in 2020. Based in Dunblane, he created the sculpture The Honours of Scotland, which sits in the Main Hall of the Scottish Parliament, the claret jugs for the Scottish First Minister’s official residence and the communion cup for Dunblane Cathedral.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. It seems likely that this has seen very little use and been primarily kept as a treasured souvenir. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 12.7cm / 5ins long and weighs in at a respectable 19.1g / 0.67oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, in an arc around the underside of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion rampant for Scottish Sterling Silver, the three towered castle assay mark for Edinburgh, the date letter M for 1986 and the G L S makers' mark for Graham Leishman Stewart.
