Set of 6 Silver Coronation Coffee Spoons, 1952 Coronation Silver Spoons %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
The Coronation Spoon, used for anointing the monarch during their coronation, is the oldest item in the Crown Jewels, dating back to the late 12th / early 13th century. In the 20th century replica spoons were produced as souvenirs at each of the coronations in 1902, 1911, 1937 and 1953.

This set of 6 Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons were produced in 1952 for the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. They are very detailed replicas of the Coronation Spoon and are made in a good gauge of silver. The maker is William Suckling Ltd of Birmingham, a very successful firm of silversmiths who were in business between around 1922 and 1967. These would be a great addition to a collection for anyone interested in spoons or royalty.

The spoons are in excellent condition with no dings, dents or splits and virtually no wear at all. It seems likely that they were never or very rarely used as coffee spoons and kept as a memento of the coronation. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 9.8cm / 3.9" long and the set of 6 together weighs in at a very respectable 55.8g / 1.97oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks are incorporated into the design on the underside of the stem. This makes them small but they are still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "C" for 1952 and the S Ld makers' mark for William Suckling Ltd.
