Pair Mid-Century Swedish Silver Candlesticks, 1957
Here we have a stylish pair of Mid-Century Swedish Silver Candlesticks. The candlesticks are made in 800 grade silver by K & E Carlson of Gothenburg in Sweden and date to 1957. K & E Carlson founded their company in 1918. In 1955 they were taken over by Ceson of Gothenburg and these candlesticks have references to both.
The two candlesticks have the typical elegant simplicity of Scandinavian mid-century design, which remains incredibly popular today. The round bases and sconces have a simple line pattern. The stem is in a fluted hexagonal form rising to a narrow waist with the sconce sitting on top. They would look wonderful on any dining table today.
Condition is extremely good with just the most minimal wear. They have clearly been very well looked after for over 60 years! The bases have a felt covering, which is showing its age a little but still prevents them from scratching a wooden table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 8cm / 3.2" high and 9.7cm / 3.8" in diameter across the base. The pair together weigh 215g / 7.58oz but there is some weighting to the bases for stability.
Both candlesticks have a full set of Swedish hallmarks on the base. These show the "triple crown" mark for Sweden, the S in a hexagon for at least 800 grade silver, the crowned G assay mark for Gothenburg, the G9 date code for 1957 and the K&EC makers' mark for K & E Carlson. In addition both candlesticks have their original retail sticker for Cesons, which also has the name K & E Carlson on it.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the items.
