This is an attractive George VI Sterling Silver Egg Cup and Spoon set. The egg cup has a gilt interior and the spoon has a gilt bowl. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind making this ideal as a gift for a Christening or any other occasion.

The set was made in Birmingham by silversmiths A.J. Bailey & Son and dates to 1939. The firm of A.J.Bailey was established in Birmingham in the 1890s, later becoming A.J. Bailey & Son. They principally produced flatware and tableware and were very successful, remaining in business under the management of the Bailey family until well into the 1970s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and little sign of wear. It seems likely that the set has been kept as a treasured gift rather than being in regular use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The egg cup is 6.2cm / 2.4ins high and 4.3cm / 1.7ins in diameter whilst the spoon is 11.6cm / 4.5ins long. The pair together weigh in at a respectable 30.4g / 1.07oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on both items are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter P for 1939 and the A.J.B makers' mark for A.J. Bailey & Son.
