George V Silver Tea Caddy, Harrods, 1922

Here we have a fine quality George V Sterling Silver Tea Caddy from the 1920s. The oval shaped caddy has a hinged navette shaped lid. There are no initials or personalisaion of any kind.
The tea caddy was made in London by world famous store Harrods and dates to 1922. The mark for Harrods is RWB for Sir Richard Woodman Burbidge who was chairman of Harrods, succeeding his father in 1917 and up until his death in 1945. Harrods' silver workshops were at this time located in Trevor Square, across the road from the main Harrods store, and there was also a small silverware showroom there. The Harrods name was always a guarantee of good quality pieces.
Condition is good with just a few tiny dings in the body and the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 100 years of good service. The hinge is in full working order and the lid sits flush on the body. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The caddy measures 7.2cm / 2.8ins by 3.9cm / 1.5ins and stands 6.9cm / 2.7ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 76.6g / 2.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the front of the body and the lid, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter g for 1922 and the trefoil style R W B makers' mark for Sir Richard Woodman Burbidge, Chairman of Harrods at this time. In addition the underside of the base has the retail stamp HARRODS.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the tea caddy.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
