George V Silver Shoe Horn & Button Hook B'ham 1915

This is an attractive Cased George V Sterling Silver Handled Shoe Horn and Button Hook Set. The silver handles are decorated with embossed flowers and scolling foliage with blank cartouches. The uppers of both parts are made from steel. The box has a black leather outer with a blue satin lining in the lid and a dark blue velvet tray.
The set was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Broadway & Co and dates to 1915. Broadway & Co was founded by William Benjamin Broadway in Birmingham in 1901. The firm quickly established a reputation for good quality workmanship and produced a wide range of silverware for personal and domestic use. The company, now called Broadway Silversmiths, remains under the control of the Broadway family to this day and still uses many of the original dies and tools from the early years of the company.
Condition is very good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the handle of the shoe horn plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of use. The box is very slightly scuffed on the outside but the hinges and clasps are in working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The shoe horn is 17.6cm / 6.9ins long and 3.5cm / 1.4ins across. The button hook is 16.8cm / 6.6ins long. Unboxed, the two together weigh 72.5g / 2.5oz and boxed up the set weighs 213g / 7.5oz.
The hallmarks on the handles are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter q for 1915 and the B & Co makers' mark for Broadway & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6.00 by Royal Mail Traxked 24.
