George V Silver Photo Frame, Chester, 1911

Here we have a charming George V Sterling Silver Photo Frame with a visible picture size of 5ins x 3.25ins. The silver is embossed with images from the Reynolds' Angels, a very popular design in the 19th and early 20th centuries based on a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The easel style frame has a wooden body and strut. The cartouche at the bottom of the frame is blank.
The photo frame was made by S. Blanckensee & Son and assayed in Chester in 1911. The firm was originally founded in Bristol by Abraham Solomon Blanckensee in 1826 but very quickly moved to premises in Birmingham and also had a mark registered in Chester. Saul Samuel was briefly a partner but left in 1858 and from the 1880s they were known as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd until they ceased trading at the end of the 1930s. They made a wide range of silverware of consistently high quality.
Condition is good with just a few high points on the silver that have been polished through by many years of cleaning, a couple of shallow bruises and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The photo frame stands 20.5cm / 8.1ins high and 16.2cm / 6.4ins across. It weighs in at 239g / 8.4oz.
The hallmarks, down the right hand side of the frame, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter L for 1911 and the S.B & S.Ld makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
