George V Silver Napkin Ring, N. Goldsmiths, 1922
This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring in its original box. The napkin ring is round with a sequence of parallel lines all the way around the body. There is an initial R elegantly engraved in the circular cartouche at the front.
The napkin ring is made in Birmingham by the Northern Goldsmiths Company and dates to 1922. Northern Goldsmiths, which still operates in Newcastle upon Tyne today, can trace its history back to 1778. It evolved into the Goldsmiths chain of High Street jewellers with many branches around the UK.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 100 years of good service. The card box with a red velvet lining is a bit distressed but it has done its job and protected the napkin ring inside. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 3cm / 1.2ins deep. Unboxed, it weighs a very respectable 26.2g / 0.92oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the back of the napkin ring are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter x for 1922 and the N.G.Co makers' mark for The Northern Goldsmiths Company.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
