George IV Irish Silver Teaspoon, M. West, 1825

This is a good quality George IV Irish Sterling Silver Teaspoon in the classic Fiddle Pattern with the uniquely Irish addition of the rat tail along the back of the bowl. This variation on Fiddle was only produced for a few years in the early 19th century. The initials RC are elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The spoon is made in Dublin by Matthew West & Sons and dates to 1825. Mathew West was a very accomplished silversmith whose firm was in business from the 1760s through to the early 1830s. They became Matthew West & Sons in the early 1820s.
Condition is good with just the superficial surface wear that you have to expect after nearly 200 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 14.0cm / 5.5ins long and weighs a very respectable 22.3g / 0.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are very well struck and clear to read. They show the crowned harp for Irish Sterling Silver, the Hibernia assay mark for Dublin, the date letter e for 1825, the George IV duty mark and the MW & Ss makers' mark for Matthew West & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
