George IV Irish Silver Serving Spoon, 1825

This is a good quality Irish George IV Sterling Silver Serving Spoon in the Fiddle and Rat Tail pattern, an uniquely Irish variation on the classic fiddle pattern which has the extended "rat tail" along the back of the bowl. The Serving Spoon is made in Dublin in a very good gauge of silver by silversmith Christopher Eades and dates to 1825. There is a crest of a fish elegantly engraved at the top of the stem and a letter "E" is engraved at the bottom of the stem on the underside. The hallmarks at the top of the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. There is an additional stamp, partially rubbed away, which is for the Dublin retailer "West's" who were a gold and silver store operating around this time.
The Serving Spoon is in very good condition with only the superficial wear & tear you would expect of an item that is 195 years old. It is perfectly usable on a dining table today or would make a good addition to any collection. Please make sure you look at all the photos.
The spoon is 22.9cm long and weighs a very substantial 67.5g of solid sterling silver.
The hallmarks are the crowned harp for Irish Sterling Silver, the Hibernia assay mark for Dublin, the date letter "E" for 1825, the George IV duty mark and the CE makers' mark for Christopher Eades along with the WEST mark for the retailer West's.
