George III Silver Table Spoon, RF, Exeter, 1792

Here we have a beautiful George III Sterling Silver Bright Cut Table Spoon. The spoon is in the classic Old English pattern and the stem has been decorated by bright cut engraving along its full length. The cartouche at the top of the stem has the initials A M S and the year 1791 engraved in the style of the time.
The spoon was made in Exeter by silversmith Richard Ferris and dates to 1792, so the engraving must have been done retrospectively. Exeter was the assay office for the whole of South West England up until its closure in 1882 but Richard Ferris was actually based in the city of Exeter itself. He was a specialist spoon maker active between around 1780 until around 1810.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 230 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 20.6cm / 8.1ins long and weighs a very respectable 40.8g / 1.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter t for 1792, the George III duty mark and the RF makers' mark for Richard Ferris.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoon.
