This is a fine quality George II Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the Hanoverian pattern. The spoon has the distinctive central rib from this period and the initials E S are engraved on the underside at the top of the stem.

The spoon was made in London by noted silversmith Richard Pargeter and dates to 1737. Richard Pargeter registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1730. He was a specialist spoon maker, and a very accomplished one, working from premises in first New Lane and then Fetter Lane in the City of London. He remained in business into the 1760s and passed away in 1768.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial wear that can only be expected after nearly 290 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The table spoon is 20cm / 7.9ins long and 4.1cm / 1.6ins wide across the bowl. It weighs in at a very respectable 51.9g / 1.83oz / 1.67toz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks are bottom struck on the underside of the stem but remain nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter b for 1737 and the R P makers' mark for Richard Pargeter.
