Very handsome and substantial pair of Victorian silver asparagus tongs with a threaded border and unusual cast detail to the handle. The blades are pireced with with a dainty pattern of crosslets in an oval formed with curved bars and dots, feathery scrolls, stars, dots and shamrock shapes. Hallmarked for London 1889, makers Goldsmiths' Alliance Ltd (Joseph & Horace Savory).

They measure 24cm (9 3/8") long, 3.2cm (1 1/4") across the blades and 6cm (2 3/8") opened. They weigh 179g/5.8ozt. Condition is excellent with no damage or repair and minimal surface wear they appear very little used.
