Here we have a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Combined Sovereign Case and Stamp Holder. The square case has two coin holders for full sovereigns and one for half sovereigns plus a similar spring loaded holder for stamps. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The sovereign case was made in Birmingham by silversmith Robert Chandler and dates to 1906. Robert Chandler established his business in Birmingham around 1900. He was a smallworker producing smoking accessories, small pieces of tableware and personal items. He remained in business into at least the mid-1920s.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. The coin holder for the half sovereigns has a slight dip to it but remains functional. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The sovereign case is 5.3cm / 2ins square and 1.5cm / 0.59ins deep. It weighs in at a very respectable 70.0g / 2.47oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the inside of the lid, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter g for 1906 and the R.C makers' mark for Robert Chandler. There are additional partial sets of hallmarks throughout the holder.
