Edwardian Silver Mounted Perpetual Calendar, 1907
Everyone needs a calendar and this one will add a real touch of class to your desk whether it's at home or at the office. It is an Edwardian Sterling Silver Mounted Perpetual Calendar on a wooden frame. The month and day slides are I believe made out of horn and the stand is made of oak. The calendar was made in Birmingham by Horton & Allday and dates to 1907. Horton & Allday had premises in both Birmingham and London and specialised in high end gentlemen's accessories, very desirable items at the height of the Edwardian era.
Overall condition is good with just a small bruise to the bottom left corner where the silver has turned over a little and the pin is missing. The laurel decoration on the four edges and around the rim of the calendar holder is in very good condition. The black print on the horn slides is very clear to read but the red print has faded quite a bit and in some places a previous owner has gone over a few of the numbers to make them clearer. The cards for all the months and all the possible start days are present so it is still very much a working perpetual calendar. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The calendar is 15.2cm across at its widest point and stands 13.3cm high. All in it weighs 189.8g, although most of this is not of course silver.
The hallmarks at the bottom left of the frame are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "h" for 1907 and the H & A makers' marks for Horton & Allday.
