Edwardian Dressing Table Pot, Finnigan's, 1909

This is an attractive Edwardian Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver Lid and Rim. The cylindrical glass pot is slice cut and has a bevelled base. The silver screw top is engine turned with an acanthus leaf decoration around the edge and circular blank cartouche in the centre. It is lined with cork on the inside to help prevent drips.
The pot was made in London for high end retailers Finningan's Ltd and dates to 1909. Finnigans was established by Brian Finnigan in Manchester in 1830. They became famous for their luxury luggage and steamer trunks for which they were awarded a gold medal at the Great Exhibition in 1851, which enhanced their reputation even further. They opened a store in London’s New Bond Street in 1879 and enlarged their range to include travel accessories, clocks, watches and silverware and later still they moved into fashion, sportswear and beauty products. They ceased trading in 1988.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 115 years of use. The screw top works smoothly and fastens tightly. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dressing table pot stands 8.7cm / 3.4ins high and is 3.9cm / 1.5ins in diameter. It weighs 125.9g / 4.4oz.
The hallmarks, on the outside rim of the lid, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter o for 1909 and the Fs Ld sponsors' mark for Finnigan's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
