These bronze fawns were cast after an early 1st century AD Roman pair found in 1756 in the garden of the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Italy. The town's remains were first excavated between 1750-1765 by Karl Weber and the bronze deer were some of the many antiquities discovered. The original Roman fawns are currently in the collection of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions about this item.
