6 x Silver Coffee Spoons, Viner's Ltd. 1936

This is a smart cased set of Six Edward VIII Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons in the Hanoverian pattern. This 18th century pattern with its central rib and upturned end was revived in the late 19th and early 20th century. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The coffee spoons were made in Sheffield by Viner's Ltd and date to 1936, the only year of Edward VIII's reign. Viner's was founded around 1900 by Adolphe Viener, who later Anglicized his family surname to Viner. Starting out as electroplaters, the firm moved into silverware in the early 1920s. They remained extremely successful up until the 1970s but later had difficulties and ceased trading in the 1980s. The Viner's brand name is now owned by Oneida.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 85 years of use. The box is somewhat scuffed on the outside but the hinges and clasp are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each coffee spoon is 10.1cm / 3.98ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at a respectable 48.2g / 1.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bowls, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter t for 1936 and the E V makers' mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
