6 x George III Irish Silver Bright Cut Teaspoons

Here we have a very fine set of George III Irish Sterling Silver Bright Cut Teaspoons. The spoons are in the Irish or Celtic Point pattern, a particular Irish version of the Old English pattern and the bright cut engraving is in the Star pattern, which was primarily associated with Dublin. The cartouche at the top of the stem has the initials "McN" elegantly engraved within it.
The spoons are made in Dublin by MS and date to the 1780s. It was standard practice with Irish silver in the 18th century that either the date letter or the makers' mark was included but only very rarely both. These spoons have the MS makers' mark on them and this is only known on examples of silver from the 1780s so we can date them with confidence.
Condition of 4 of the spoons is extremely good with only the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after around 240 years of use. One of the other spoons has a very small ding to the edge of the bowl and one spoon has a slightly misshapen bowl but both are otherwise otherwise in good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 13.2cm / 5.2" long and the set of 6 together weighs in at a very substantial 72.9g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are a little rubbed, as you would expect in spoons of this age but they are still easy to read. They show the crowned harp for Sterling Silver, the Hibernia assay mark for Dublin and the MS makers' mark.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
