2 x Edwardian Silver Open Salts, Wm. Aitken, 1905
This is a good quality pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Open Salts. The salts are cauldron shaped with a crimped rim and stand on three ball feet. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The salts are made in Birmingham by noted silversmith William Aitken and date to 1905. William Aitken founded his very successful firm in the late 1880s and remained in business into the early 1920s producing a wide range of consistently good quality silverware.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the absolute bare minimum of salt corrosion. They remain completely suitable for use today. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each salt is 4.8cm / 1.9ins in diameter and stands 2.5cm / 1in high. The pair together weigh in at a respectable 20g / 0.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bases are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter f for 1905 and the W.A makers' mark for William Aitken.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
