Worcester James Giles Hope Edwardes Dessert Plate

A stunning small Worcester porcelain scalloped dessert plate painted in the Hope Edwardes pattern with a glorious cornucopia shaped claret ground overlaid with fine ciselé raised gilding. The central reserve has a large main arrangement of peach, grapes, red berries and morning glory flowers and scattered around are floral and berry sprigs and a small radish. Decorated in the atelier of James Giles, c.1770.
This stunning pattern came into being following the commission of a dessert service by Sir Thomas Edwardes, whose descendant family later took the name Hope Edwardes.
Reference: "In Search Of James Giles" by Gerald Coke, page 96 and plate 52c. Described as the "Hope Edwards" (sic) pattern, No. 2 version. There are some examples that are just floral but still decorated by Giles (No. 1 version according to Coke), and some other variations coming slightly later into the mid-1770's, not decorated by Giles, but probably by the factory itself and also include tea wares.
Provenance: Private English collection.
It measures 17.5cm (6 7/8") wide and 2.9cm (1 1/8") high.
In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration. Some rubbing to the gilt on the rim but minimal handling wear otherwise to the enamels or gilding, just fractionally the latter on the inner edge of the lip. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
Price includes UK shipping. Worldwide shipping is also available, please ask for a cost. For US customers, current tariff charges of 10% must be paid in advance of posting. Please contact us to go through the details.
We wish to ensure all our customers are happy with their purchases and offer a full no quibble return policy for all items returned within 14 days. We ask that returns are notified within 7 days where possible. Return postage is the buyer's responsibility in terms of cost and safeguarding the item through transit.
