Pair Of Copper Lustre Staffordshire Spaniel Dogs
An attractive large pair of Staffordshire fireside dogs as spaniels, c.1890, with separate front leg and copper lustre decoration. Vent holes to the reverse and a maker mark to the base of one.
Reference: A-Z Staffordshire Dogs by Pope, Figure 44 for a similar example, dated c.1890. Please note that Harding & Harding date these copper lustre finish dogs to c.1920 and illustrate similar examples also, pages 66/67.
The tallest measures 24cm (9 1/2") high, 18cm (7") long and 13.2cm (5 1/4") deep.
Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. There are a couple of minor firing faults to the male right-facing dog, a short firing crack between his front legs and a fine line along the join part along his back towards the bottom half. The copper has oxidised in some places causing a green effect amongst the copper, more noticeable on the female left-facing dog. Minimal surface wear, the enamel to the faces is very good on both. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
Price includes UK shipping. Worldwide shipping is also available, please ask for a cost.
We wish to ensure all our customers are happy with their purchases and offer a full no quibble return policy for all items returned within 14 days. We ask that returns are notified within 7 days where possible. Return postage is the buyer's responsibility in terms of cost and safeguarding the item through transit.
