Norwegian 830 Silver "Valdres" Serving Spoon
This is a stunning Norwegian Silver Serving Spoon in the "Valdres" pattern and is in 830/1000 grade silver. The spoon is made by Thorvald Marthinsen Solvarrefabrikk in Tonsberg, Norway and dates to between the 1930s and the 1950s. Thorvald Marthinsen was founded in 1883 and is still in business today. They are particularly famous for their flatware designs, originally in 830 grade silver and nowadays in Sterling Silver.
The "Valdres" pattern is a distinctive Norwegian pattern in a rococo style. Whilst smaller pieces are quite commonly found it is rare to find the large serving pieces such as this one. It is perfectly usable today and would be a great addition for someone looking to add to a service in the "Valdres" pattern.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that is to be expected after several years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 21.6cm / 8.5" long and weighs a respectable 68.2g / 2.4oz of solid silver.
The marks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the 830S mark for 830 / 1000 grade silver, the old Norwegian standard, the NM mark which stands for Norsk Monster, a Norwegian copyright mark and the chalice or goblet makers' mark for Thorvald Marthinsen.
