Early Staffordshire Pearlware Walton-type Doe %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a very good example of a Staffordshire doe, recumbent before bocage, set upon a scroll base in the Walton style dating from the early 1800s.
John Walton was a figure potter who potted in the Staffordshire potteries from 1806 to around 1830. His early figures generally were set with bocage detail and flowers or rosettes enabling this type to be attributed to Walton-school or Walton -type figures.
This example has a lovely strength of colour to the paintwork which is remarkably unchipped or rubbed. There is a very minor hairline under the neck of the doe and a small repair to one of the bocage leaves, otherwise this is in really excellent condition.
The piece measures 12 cms high by 10 cms wide by 5 cms deep.
