A huge 37cm oval platter, designed by John Armstrong for the 1934 Harrods and 1935 Art in Industry exhibitions. The theme of the exhibitions was 'Modern Art for ther Table', with renowned artists of the day invited to submit designs including Vanessa Bell, Barbara Hepworth, Graham Sutherland and Laura Knight. This design is referred to as Chaldean or Cheveaux. The plate is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. A few under glaze paint specks from firing and a tiny glaze scratch, shown in the photos. The 3 small dark spots on the back are kiln resting points. 37cm x 28cm
