John Howard began trading in 1820 as a cabinet maker and in 1848 became John Howard and sons. The company became well-known for quality and craftsmanship. They established themselves as makers of sofas, chairs and chaise longue combining elegance with comfort due to their new approach to upholstery. The Howard name came to be synonymous with luxury.
