This is a fun Early 20th Century Silver Plate Pepper Shaker in the shape of an egg. The shaker stands on three ball feet and has a screw top lid with a ball finial.

The pepper shaker was made in Sheffield by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb and dates to around the 1900s to 1930s. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The Mappin & Webb brand name remains a byword for quality and style to this day.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, just the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pepper shaker is 5.6cm / 2.2ins high and 4cm / 1.6ins wide. It weighs 59g / 2.08oz.

The underside of the base is stamped MAPPIN & WEBB.
