WWI Interest, hallmarked Silver Inkwell / Penrest WW1 silver inkwell %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
An unusual and very attractive hallmarked SILVER DESK INKWELL with integral pen rest and mechanical opening lid. With evocative WW1 association.

Manufactured by Birmingham silversmith William Neale in 1909, the inkwell was presented as a gift in 1916, in the midst of WW1, and bears the following inscription

"William Scoley, from Major J Bouch, Christmas 1916. A mark of esteem."

Who these gentlemen were, and what they were experiencing in 1916, we can only imagine.

The inkwell lid opens by pressing down the penholder. The mechanism still works as new.

A charming object in its own right, with interesting WW1 association.
