Vintage Silver Dwarf Candlestick, Birmingham, 1969
This is a smart Vintage Sterling Silver Dwarf Candlestick from the 1960s. The candlestick has a round stepped domed base, which is weighted for stability, and an urn shaped sconce with line decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The candlestick was made in Birmingham by Sanders & Mackenzie and dates to 1969. Ernest W. Sanders and Henry A. Mackenzie established their firm in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in 1911. They were very successful, producing a broad range of silverware from their premises in Spencer Street, where they remained in business until around 1980.
Condition is very good with just one flat spot on the rim of the base plus the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The candlestick is 5.6cm / 2.2ins high and 5.6cm / 2.2ins in diameter across the base. It weighs in at 49.9g / 1.76oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks, on the rim of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter U for 1969 and the S & M makers' mark for Sanders & Mackenzie.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
