Sterling Silver Ladle by Hester Bateman, c.1787 spoon punch drink %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A beautiful George III period sterling silver ladle, fully hallmarked for Hester Bateman, London, 1787. The ladle comes with a later case for Gebelein Silversmiths, Boston, USA (1878-1945).

Hester Bateman (1708 – 1794) was an English silversmith, renowned for her high quality flatware and ornamental silverware. A craftswoman working within the family business, she was succeeded in turn by her sons, daughter-in-law, grandson and great-grandson. The Bateman family silversmithing company lasted until the middle of the nineteenth century.

This stunning example boasts a fine scallop shell bowl and tapering feathered handle. The ladle remains in an excellent condition throughout with good clear hallmarks.

Originally intended as a sauce ladle, this piece also works perfectly as a punch ladle.
