George V Silver Cocktail Fork, Adie & Lovekin 1913
This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Cocktail or Pickle Fork. The small fork has three prongs, a slender stem and a thistle shaped finial with an amber glass top. These forks would have been used at a buffet, for small pickles or for adding items to cocktails.
The cocktail fork was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Adie & Lovekin Ltd and dates to 1913. Founded in 1863 by James Adie and Alfred Lovekin, the firm specialised in flatware, fancy goods, silver antique jewellery and particularly sewing related items. Their pin cushions are highly collectable. The original partners passed away in 1913 and 1912 and the firm carried on until around 1930.
Condition is good, with just a very slight kink in the tines of the forks (the turned up ends are intentional) plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of over 110 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The fork is 12.2cm / 4.8ins long and weighs in at 5.9g / 0.21oz.
The hallmarks, on the head of the fork, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter o for 1913 and the ALLd makers' mark for Adie & Lovekin Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
