George III Toddy Ladle, Edinburgh, c.1800
This is a good quality George III Scottish Sterling Silver Toddy Ladle with a barley twist bone handle and silver finial. The Toddy Ladle is made in Edinburgh by silversmith John McDonald and dates to around 1800 - 1810. John McDonald made a wide variety of good quality silver pieces at his premises in Edinburgh and was active from 1797 to 1817. There is no engraving or personalisation of any kind on the ladle. The hallmarks on the inside of the bowl are well struck and clear to read, although there is no date letter present.
The Toddy Ladle is in reasonable overall condition for its age, with one very small dent near the bottom of the bowl and just the usual wear & tear you would expect of an item that's been in use for over 200 years! It is completely functional and suitable for use today or would make a great addition to any collection. Please make sure you look at all the photos.
The ladle is 20.1cm long and weighs 13.0g, although this obviously includes the bone handle.
The hallmarks are the thistle for Edinburgh Scottish Sterling Silver, the George III duty mark and the IMD makers' mark for John McDonald.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
Overseas customers please enquire about shipping costs before making a purchase.
