Edwardian Silver Spill Vase, Horace Woodward, 1902
This is a very good quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Spill Vase. The spill vase is formed as four lobes rising from a circular base and has beaded decoration all around the top rim. The base, which is weighted for stability, is made of four rounded organic looking sections. It makes a very attractive piece that would look beautiful with either a small posy of flowers or a single stem sitting on a dressing table or as a centrepiece on a small dining table.
The spill vase is made in London by Horace Woodward & Co Ltd in 1902. Horace Woodward & Co Ltd were in business in Birmingham and in London's prestigious Hatton Garden district between 1866 and around 1920. As well as their own store, they made items for many famous retailers including Harrods and Liberty.
Condition is very good with just a couple of tiny dings in the base and the superficial wear you would expect after nearly 120 years of use. The weighting material in the base rattles a little if shaken but is secure. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spill vase is 11.6cm / 4.5ins high and 5.8cm / 2.25ins across the base. It weighs 247.7g / 8.73oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks on the side of the vase are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter g for 1902 and the H W & Co Ld in a quatrefoil makers' mark for Horace Woodward & Co Ltd. The side of the base is stamped with the registered design no 360759 which dates the design of the piece to 1900/1901.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the vase.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
