2 x George V Silver Liver Bird Coffee Spoons, 1924
This is a good quality pair of George V Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons featuring the famous Liver Bird, the symbol of the city of Liverpool and Liverpool FC. The Liver Bird has been the symbol of the city of Liverpool for centuries and is generally believed to be a cormorant holding a piece of seaweed in its beak.
The spoons would be a perfect gift for anyone connected with Liverpool or a supporter of Liverpool FC or would make a great addition to a Liverpool themed collection.
This pair of coffee spoons are very well modelled with a detailed depiction of the bird on each finial. They are made in Birmingham by the renowned silversmiths Levi & Salaman and date to 1924. Phineas Levi and Joseph Salaman were in partnership between the mid-1880s and the mid-1920s, so these spoons are from very near the end of their business.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the absolute minimum of surface wear, which suggests that they have seen little or no use and kept as treasured items. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 9.3cm / 3.6ins long and the pair together weigh in at a respectable 13.3g / 0.47oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowls, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter z for 1924 and the L & S makers' mark for Levi & Salaman.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
