Silver Plated Fruit Bowl, Lee & Wigfull, c.1920s
This is an elegant Silver Plated Fruit Bowl from the interwar years. It is made in Sheffield by renowned cutlers, silversmiths and electroplaters Lee & Wigfull and dates to c.1920s/30s. Lee & Wigfull was founded in 1871 and continued in business up until the 1960s producing a vast range of tableware and flatware of consistently good quality.
This fruit basket has an oval base which broadens out to a scalloped rim with gadroon decoration. It stands on four bun feet. It's a versatile design which could be used for a variety of uses today, obviously as a fruit bowl but also as a bread basket, a general open serving dish or for presenting your Quality Street selection at Christmas. The choice is yours!
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and no plate loss except for a tiny amount on the bottom of the four bun feet, which is pretty much unavoidable over this period of time.
The bowl is 28.2cm / 11.2" long, 22cm / 8.6" wide and 5cm / 2" high. It weighs 456g / 16oz.
The marks on the underside of the base are very clear to read. It shows the warrior and flag trade mark, it's stamped British, Made In England, L & W S Ltd for Lee & Wigfull Ltd of Sheffield and EPNS for Electro Plated Nickel Silver. These in combination give us a date of the 1920s or 30s.
Shipping in the UK is £7 by MyHermes Tracked and Signed.
