Vintage Triang Carved Wooden Rocking Horse.
Early Lines Brothers Triang Carved Wooden Rocking Horse. Sportyboy 1. 1920's
This is a lovingly preserved rocking horse from the early years of Triang.
The company was reformed in 1926 from Lines Brothers Ltd. Rocking Horses had been built by the family business since Victorian times and this same hand build process continued into the early years of Triang
This little beauty had clearly been very well used and much loved in her prime and equally well cherished in recent times, having been restored with a whisper light touch to preserve every bit of her character as she has mellowed and aged with the years.She has not been over restored, renewed or repainted or had new fittings applied.
The craftsmanship and skills of the rocking horse builders are clearly revealed through the years of wear - the wooden model was first constructed and expertly carved and sculptured, and the face in particular has very detailed delicate features. The figure was then overlaid with layers of gesso and painted to finish with her beautiful dapple grey coat. She has her original glass eyes and horse hair main and tail. The cloth and saddle are original also and there are some remains of her leather reins. She has lost her stirrups.
The stand is original and sound and the rocking mechanism all in good working order. The metal brackets are stamped Lines Bros Ltd, and it retains 2 circular metal Triang logo badges front and rear.
