Vintage Silver Salt & Pepper Shakers, B'ham, 1985
This is an elegant set of Vintage Sterling Silver Salt & Pepper Shakers. The shakers are in neo-Georgian style with pull off lids. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The salt and pepper shakers were made in Birmingham by Broadway & Co and date to 1985. Broadway & Co was founded by William Benjamin Broadway in Birmingham in 1901. The firm quickly established a reputation for good quality workmanship and produced a wide range of silverware for personal and domestic use. The company, now called Broadway Silversmiths, remains under the control of the Broadway family to this day and still uses many of the original dies and tools from the early years of the company.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each shaker stands 9.8cm / 3.8ins high and is 3.4cm / 1.3ins in diameter. The two together weigh in at a very respectable 65.2g / 2.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the upper parts of the bodies, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the cursive date letter L for 1985 and the B & Co makers' mark for Broadway & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
