Victorian Silver Fish Knife, Charles Boyton, 1887
This is a fine quality Victorian Sterling Silver Fish Knife in the Old English Bead pattern. The knife is double struck, has the traditional scimitar shaped blade with thread decoration along the top and the initials JMW elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The fish knife is made in London by renowned silversmith Charles Boyton (II) and dates to 1887. The firm was founded by Charles Boyton (I) in 1825 and continued by his son Charles Boyton (II) up until 1894 when it became Charles Boyton & Son and remained under the control of the Boyton family into the 1930s.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 135 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The fish knife is 20.7cm / 8.1cm long and weighs a very substantial 65.4g / 2.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter M for 1887, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the CB in conjoined circles for Charles Boyton (II).
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
